Mommy's Easter

Journaling:
I don’t have photos of Easter. This is a photo close to Easter in 1978. I don’t know how things are in Peru now. It has been a long time. Easter was a religious holiday; it was a lot of fun because everyone was over. Everything started on Palm Sunday when we got the beautiful Palm leafs. Thursday at noon people stopped working no stores were open including night clubs the stores didn’t sell alcohol. The TV didn’t play commercials only movies about Jesus Christ. Holy Friday we used to get together with some of our parents friends and family. We could only eat fish; we used to have fish “anticuchos” (shish-ka-bas). We played different games (cards, crocket … whatever kept us busy).
There was no Easter bunny, no baskets, and no gifts. It was a time to repent for our sins and we were all waiting for Easter Sunday when the celebration started with a big Bar-B-Q party. Sunday after church, we had very happy music and everyone will dance. I have beautiful unforgettable memories with our family even without all the goodies that we have today.
